Rockets, volcanos and small children

You'd think that was possibly not the best combination, but I've never let things like that bother me before. The niece was here for a week, on her own, without the boys. So lots of finding things to do to keep her amused, including a compulsory visit from Uncle Phil (who would have been in trouble if he hadn't come).

So, a trip to a zoo to see some animals (no sweary parrot though!). Then we had to rush home to make a cake. Which had to be pink. (Made up for the fact that I didn't get around to making a "big pink gay cake" for Phil's birthday).

Then rocket time. Coke bottle, 1/3 full of water. Car tyre valve with a couple of balloons wrapped around it to plug up the neck of the bottle. Careful balance it on a stand made of bent coat hangers. Pump air into bottle. Watch as it flies 50 foot in the air, soaking anyone standing nearby. Repeat until small child is amused enough. I was enjoying it a bit too much, I think.

Oh, and volcanos involve vinegar, baking soda and washing up liquid. And some food colouring. Never did quite get the recipe right.
